Road Trip!

Yes, after only being in Honduras for two weeks we left the country! We spent this past weekend at the beach in El Salvador. It's about a 3 1/2 hour drive to El Cuco, where we spent our Labor Day weekend. There were about 8 embassy families that invaded the small "resort". We each had our own bungalow which the kids referred to as "our little house". The resort had a restaurant, large pool, and an awesome "baby" pool. The best part of the place was the ocean. It was warm and strong waves ideal for boogie boarding. The boys (including Matt) would spend the entire morning from about 9-12 out in the water, then it was pool time the rest of the day. The weather was perfect, hot! It was warm when you got in the water and when you got out, my kind of tempature. Cole loved the beach, the ocean, and the pool! After a long day at the pool or beach you could relax in one of the many hammocks hanging throughout the many palm trees. The place was so small that you could see your bungalow from the outdoor restaurant. So, all the kids would eat together and then off to bed! Then the adults would sit around and visit while keeping an eye on each of "our little houses". There were large gates that you entered and those were locked and guarded each night.

We had great service from our waiter Oscar. At the end of our time there Oscar received about a $150 tip from all of us. That is about a months salary for him.

Getting there and back was quiet an interesting journey. It was a beautiful, winding road leaving Tegu and then a straight shot into El Salvador. I guess you could say it was a straight shot if you didn't count the herds of cows on the roads, the small children walking and sitting along the shoulder of the road, and stray dogs standing in the middle of the road not making any effort to move out of the way. Now I understand why you get to where you need to be by sundown!

After our weekend away I am glad to say that I was happy to be back in Tegu. Home Sweet Home, especially after traveling with 3 children and no DVD player in our car!
