EARLY Easter Morning

A friend of mine (and Cole) went to a 5:30 a.m. processional downtown. For some reason we missed the memo that it didn't actually start until 6:30! Some how everyone else knew what time it started. This was a very interesting reinactment of the Easter story, not one that I recognized, but still worth seeing.

Now keep in mind that we have no idea what is going on here, but we figured it out and overheard a few people talking about it (in spanish). This represents Mary.

This angel would come towards Mary. When the people saw the angel they would start clapping. The angel would head towards Mary. When she got close to Mary the people holding the statue of Mary would rock her back and forth. This represented her saying "no" like she didn't believe what the angel was telling her. Then the angel would turn around and go back where she came from. Then another angel would come and do the same thing. This went on for about 30 minutes of angels coming and going and Mary rocking back and forth implying "no".


Then Jesus comes around the corner. Jesus is moving towards Mary and Mary is moving towards Jesus. At this point the crowd is cheering.

As they get closer the band is playing, the crowd is cheering, and fire crackers are going off. Mary believes Jesus now that she sees him. Then Mary and Jesus walk together through the streets of Tegucigalpa with everyone (including the band) following them. This is where we take a detour and head to Dunkin' Donuts!
