Graham was diagnosed with Kohler's Disease. It is a rare bone disorder of the foot caused when the navicular bone temporarily loses its blood supply. As a result, tissue in the bone dies and the bone collapses. The typical patient is a boy usually around 4 years old, I think that fits us!
Children appear to grow out of the disorder and cause no long term problems, and the affected bones regain their size, density and structure within a year. For some, however, symptoms may last as long as two years. Although no definitive cause has been found yet, the disease may be due to strain on a weak navicular bone.
The treatment would have been to cast the ankle for 4-6 weeks, but the doctor felt that since he was just coming out of a cast that that would not be the best option for him. We will have x-rays taken of his ankle (here in Honduras) in 3 months and email them to the doctor in Houston and go from there. For now, Graham is encouraged to exercise moderately, avoiding extremes (yikes)!

Gram just called and told me to read your blog....so glad to learn that Graham's going to recover, that it is nothing more serious. Speaking of "recovering" - how did Matt and boys do while you were away? Hope you enjoyed your time with your family in Texas...lucky them! :) l
