After our time in Washington we arrived in Fort Worth to visit my family. We were here for about 10 days till we went to visit Matt's brother in West Texas. They had just finished their brand new house and only been living there for one week till we invaded them. The house was amazing and huge. The kids had so much room to play and we could all spread out! I have a feeling we broke the house in a little quicker than they had expected!
During our visit we had appointments to see the pediatrician for Reid and Cole. The doctor confirmed that Reid's growth is fine, it was good for me to hear that from an American Pediatrician. He is in the 5th percentile for his height, but he is doing great! As for Cole, we were concerned about the circumcision he received in Buenos Aires. It looked like he had a lot of skin, more than normal. The pediatrician thought it would be worth considering to have it redone. That night Matt's brother was on the phone to a pediatric urologist and had an appointment for Cole the next morning. The recommendation was to have surgery the next morning to correct the botched circumcision he had done at birth. So..... after a one hour procedure and general anesthesia he was good to go. He stayed in the hospital till noon and then was able to come home. He did great, you would have never of known my baby just had surgery! We brought him home to a house full of company (17 of us in all) and he was amazing!
During that time Reid and Graham were feeling a little under the weather, but we just chalked it up to too much sun, swimming, and playing with cousins. We left West Texas on a Tuesday morning with Reid feeling awful and throwing up at the airport, thank goodness it was only a one hour flight. We arrive in FW and he was still feeling so bad. All night he was complaining about his stomach hurting. Meanwhile, Graham was having earaches, and Cole was as happy as he can be! My sister called her pediatrician and he agreed to see them both (thank goodness). Graham had a middle ear infection in one ear and the other ear was so swollen he couldn't even see inside. Reid was sent to Cook's Children's Hospital to have a sonogram to rule out that is wasn't his appendix. He was then sent to the ER for further testing. The diagnosis was constipation, the poor kid was given an enema and sent home. The pediatrician who had sent us to the ER was not convinced that this was what was wrong with him and the next day we were back at the hospital, this time they admitted him. After 3 nights in hospital he was diagnosed with Henoch-Schonlein Purpura. Basically what happens it that your body has a strange reaction to a typical virus. The cause is not really known. It causes severe abdominal cramping and pains in the joints. Poor Reid was so out of it and so weak. But, I have to say that if you had to be in a hospital, this is the one to be at. It was amazing all the activities going on for the kids while we were there. He received stuffed animals from volunteers, had a game cube in the room along with kids movies constantly running. He is home now and doing much better. We had to stick around for an extra week to monitor him because it is possible for relapses to occur.
While Reid was in the hospital he missed the wedding he was supposed to be in. But, Graham stepped up and filled in for him. We were all holding our breath to see if he was going to actually do it. He complained about the tux, the flower, the shoes, you name it! But...... he did it and he was so darn handsome! He added just enough personality to make it fun, but not take away from the bride and groom.
As soon as Reid came home from the hospital, Matt got sick and has been flat on his back for 2 days. He finally went to the doctor and he has strep! He is now on meds and should be perking up soon. Reid made it quite clear that if Matt needed to go to the hospital, he would be going alone because he would NOT be going back!
Cole is going on 15 months and still not walking, he has no desire. He is so cute and full of personality. We have had so much fun with him and are so proud of the way he has hung in there without his own personal nanny. He loves his brothers, his aunts, swimming, and going to Wal-mart! He has adorable curls that I can't cut, at least not until he is walking! With the curls he looks so much like a baby. Mommy's baby!
Our plan is to arrive in Honduras on Friday if all goes well with Reid this week. The kids will be about 3 days late from starting school, but they will be fine. We look forward to our arrival and are more than ready to get settled in our house (which is ready and waiting for us). It is hard being "homeless". You aren't part of the past post and you have no idea what lies ahead. We are so thankful for our family and how much they have been there for us during this difficult time. Hopefully we are all on the road to recovery! We are ready to get back to our 3rd world way of life so we can get healthy!!!! Never thought I would say that!

oh my kim...crazy stuff going on. I'm glad to hear that Reid is doing better. I hope Matt is taking some strong antibiotics to take care of that strep. who would have thought that all this sickness would come when you all are in the USA. crazy. We miss you guys a ton!!!! have a safe trip and let us know that you've landed and everyone is doing well.
We can't wait for you to join us here in the third world! How soon can you make a trip to Nica and/or how soon can you receive visitors in Tegu? Sam is DYING for Reid to "get here."
Get Matt well and get yourselves here!
Church last Sunday without you all was sad. I had cut church since Kemper and Janet left, so it was my first Sunday back. Then a board meeting without Matt was also weird. I hope you all get better, and enjoy your time in Honduras!
